After Dr. Kaunda was told about this freedom fighter, he ordered for her CASEVAC to UTH where she subsequently died due to bleeding and infection and she was later buried at Chingwere cemetery at the of 67. There have been allegations that Maina Soko was involved in covert military activities and hence she became a target for the Selous Scouts. Not so much has been written about Maina Soko’s true identity and the specific role she played in the liberation struggle. The Zambia Army has patented the name “Maina Soko”.
